Memorial services will be Wednesday at Crestwood Funeral Home for Laura Catherine Chandler, age 28, of Glencoe, who died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at her home. The Reverend Rodney McInnis will officiate. Laura was born November 13, 1985, in Gadsden, AL. She graduated in 2004 from Glencoe High School. While in high school, she began working at K-Mart Pharmacy in East Gadsden. She worked there for 5 years. Her dream of becoming a pharmacist was encouraged by Charlene McCoy, a special teacher in her life, and her “adopted dad,” Dave, the special pharmacist she worked with, as well as her cousin, Tyler Croft, a nuclear pharmacist in Mobile, AL. She was in her third year of studies at Wingate University School of Pharmacy in North Carolina when she had to take a medical leave of absence. Laura enjoyed reading books, watching movies and playing board games. She loved butterflies, hummingbirds, miniature horses, Alabama football and her special, spoiled dogs Bonnie and Cricket. Laura helped plant and maintain her mawmaw Starnes’ prized lilies and loved flowers of all kinds. Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl Chandler Sr., H.B. and Mazie Starnes; cousin, Kevin Wampler; and her uncle, Bobby Chandler. She is survived by her parents, Damon and Cathy Chandler; and her brother, Logan Chandler, of Glencoe. In Alabama: Laura is survived by her aunts and uncles, Sally and Bobby Croft, Myra Briand, John Starnes, and great aunt Kearnie Starnes. Laura’s special cousins, Tyler and Danya Croft, Alyson Godfrey, Ginger Hayes, Josh and Wesley Starnes and her very special cousin Savannah Hayes. She had many Baker cousins from Albertville: Judy, Brenda, Renee, Ken, Rodney Baker and families; Charley, Gail and Frank Baker and families. Her Virginia family: Laura is survived by her very special Grandma (Ola Chandler); aunts and uncles, Annete Chandler, Carl and Helen Chandler; Vera Faw (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and family, Reba and Jack Crawford, Elaine Chandler; and special cousins, Ezma Lee and Rick Stevens; Rob, Kayla and Kaylem Chandler, John Chandler, Brian and Jan Chandler and family; Laurie and Randy Moye and family, Scott and Karen Chandler; Frank and her special shopping buddy Lois Ott; Scott Wampler and family; Janis Agee and family; Brenda Delbridge and family; Whitten Davis and family; Arnold Davis and family; Jamie Hatcher and family; Jenny and Lance Greer and family; Michael Chandler; Christine Patterson and family; and Jennifer Manning and Karen Newsome and families; and Jamie Ousley as well as many other cousins. She is also survived by her friends at Dublin Baptist Church, where she attended with her grandmother Chandler. Her North Carolina family: Virginia Rumley; Jimmy Rumley and family; Betty Thornburg and family; Brenda Holcome and family; and many other cousins. Her adopted mother, Trudy Eudy, and adopted sisters, Emily Eudy and Lindsey Birmingham, in Monroe, N.C., where she attended pharmacy school, and their families that treated Laura as one of them. Laura loved all past and present friends, and had abundant love for all people. Please honor her by being patient with and loving one another. Laura Jane Biedermann (Lollie) Smith, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, died April 6 , 2014, at Tradition’s Way of Capstone Village. Services will be Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00, at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa with the Revs. Dan Kilgore and Bill Bostick officiating, and Magnolia Chapel South directing. The family will receive visitors at FUMC in the Parker Fireside Room one hour prior to the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Frances Biedermann, and her husband of 46 years, Haynes S. Smith, Sr. Survivors include her three sons – Stephen Sr. and his wife, Carole Smith of Tuscaloosa AL , Haynes Jr. and his wife, Lindy Smith of Decatur, AL and Randall Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL.; four grandchildren: Stephen Jr. and his wife, Allison Smith of Metairie, LA, Laura Smith of Decatur, AL, Leigh Anna Smith, of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Leslie Smith of Decatur, AL. Laura Jane Smith was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on March 14, 1928. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, and The University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, and played on the only women’s football team – the Honey Bowl – from 1945-1947. She married Haynes Smith in 1950, and enjoyed many years of raising three sons, plus a career beginning at The Tuscaloosa County Courthouse in the license department, followed by substitute teaching with the City School system, and was an avid Alabama Sports fan. In her retirement years, she and Haynes enjoyed outings with the Airstream Club, was a poll worker, and travelled extensively. She was a founding member of the Lee Bible Sunday School class, and was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group for over 60 years, where she spearheaded the annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Bazaar. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Scott, Ed Graves, Hugh Stegall, Bill Smith, Chris Kyle, Josh Davis, and the members of the Lee Bible Sunday School Class. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Traditions Way at Capstone Village for their loving care and compassion.
